Vietnamese Egg Coffee Class
Right off the bat, if you have found this page and you dont care about my experience in the class and you only want to know, "How do I find this egg coffee class in Ho Chi Minh City?" It is called Lacàph Space Sài Gòn | Coffee Experiences put that in your google maps and google will give you the fastest route to it.

Getting There
So I would normally not focus on the drive to the place but I seen maybe the most amazing thing on my way there. I am going to do my best to guide you through how I came across such an amazing sight.
I was recommended by one of the locals to go try the coffee class offered here in Ho Chi Minh City. So me being the free spirit that I am said "sure why not." So they sent me the address and I plugged it into the google maps machine.
This is the path that google set out for me. (Full disclosure these next 3 pictures are not from the actual drive because I had no way of knowing what i was aboht to see. Also I made the trip during the day and these pictures were taken at night. While I was being given a tour of the city.)
So I jumped on my scooter and headed off.
I started by dodging some other people on motorbikes.
Even waved to the local.
Then when I turned the last corner of my trip I nearly fell off of my scooter.
I had to pull over and set up my camera for this picture right here.
I had no idea that the avengers headquarters and Stark Tower was located in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.
Well not exactly but close enough. Ok nerd story is over back to the coffee shop.
The class
The coffee shop that teaches us about how to make the egg coffee is quite cozy. When you get there it is on the second floor about a couple of other street stores. Right next to the stairs to walk up is a little spot that you can park your motorbike if you need to.
Once you walk in you are greeted by the staff who cheerfully say "welcome" so you come in. I got there about 30 minutes early for the class so I sat down and enjoyed a cup if the lemonade coffee drink they have. Before heading upstairs to the classroom. Sadly I didn’t get a picture of the lemonade coffee because I was busy taking a timelapse with my phone of the shop while I sipped on my drink. I have to say I was throughly impressed with how lemonade coffee tasted.
Heading upstairs you walk into an open room that looks like a chemistry class set up. The 2 tables had individual kettles , cups with eggs in them, different color bottles on the table. All of that complete with a smiling instructor at the front of the class ready to teach us how to make egg coffee.
Our egg coffee class began with watching a quick video of where the coffee beans we are using for our coffee comes from and the process the beans goes through to reach the table we are sitting at. It includes clips of locals to Vietnam talking about how great coffee has been for them with one even saying that coffee is what allowed him to get married.
After the video our coffee instructor gets right into explaining what we will be learning in our class. She explains that the class is broken up into 4 parts.
First part the instructor explains equipment.
We have the kettle, stainless steel mixing cup, the mixer, coffee grinds, 2 eggs, the Phin Filter, a spoon and a glass of water to drink. Because making coffee can be exhausting, thankfully once you are done the coffee will wake you right up.
Second part the instructor makes a cup of coffee while explaining how and why you do it these ways.
She makes sure to go through the class at a comfortable pace and stops to make sure everyone is following along. Its not a difficult process but remember none of us have had a cup of coffee yet. (well I did but not everyone got there early.)
Third we make our own cup of egg coffee.
This doesn't sound so bad but after all of the emphasis on the cultural importance of coffee in Vietnam I felt the last thing I can do is screw up a cup of egg coffee. So I wiped the sweat from my brow and got to work. Nah i'm kidding it wasn't that intense it was fun.
Its quite simple you boil the water, pour it over the coffee grinds, crack 2 eggs for the yolk, add the secret ingredients to the eggs, wisk it all up, then pour the eggs into the cup first and the coffee in second. Then you get this beauty. (I forgot to add the coco powder on top at the end but it was still good)
The fourth part we wrap up the class and get our certification.
Look out Starbucks I am now a certified coffee-tastic brewing prowess, that makes the most experienced barista's jealous. It even says it on my certificate.
Our coffee class ended with with a video thanking us for our time and asking that we all go and share our coffee experience and the vietnamese culture with others. I would have to say this class was a lot of fun and is very informative of vietnamese culture as well as the reason vietnamese began drinking egg coffee in the first place.
If you find yourself in HCMC, Vietnam and you have the time I highly recommend this class. It only costs about $20 USD and you have a great time.
